Spectrum Center implements ITU-R P.452-16 in its entirety bringing Spectrum-E© in line with the latest ITU release.
ITU-R P.452-16 evaluates interference between stations on the surface of the Earth at frequencies above about 0.1 GHz. The recommendation addresses different elements of RF propagation including line-of-sight, diffraction, tropospheric scatter, surface ducting, elevated layer reflection and refraction and hydrometeor-scatter interference.
The recommendation based its hydrometeor-scatter calculation on the level of interfering energy that is scattered by a rain cell towards a victim receiver. With no publicly-proven implementation of this methodology, Spectrum Center researched, implemented and tested the methodology outlined in the recommendation. This involved the interpretation of the complex geometric relationship between transmitting stations, receiving stations and the terrain morphology. This interpretation was translated into C/C++ and was tested and benchmarked against the hydrometeor-scatter methodology in COST210. Testing showed a good correlation between the two hydrometeor-scatter methods.
Martin Riaz based with Spectrum Center, Inc, lead engineer for this development, says “This implementation demonstrates the lengths Spectrum Center will go to ensure Spectrum-E© features the very latest ITU-R propagation models. And, it’s comforting that we were able to correlate the outputs from this implementation against industry standard, providing industry-assurance that the correct results are achieved.”
